The definition of branding according to the Business Dictionary:

The process involved in creating a unique name and image for a product in the consumers’ mind, mainly through advertising campaigns with a consistent theme. Branding aims to establish a significant and differentiated presence in the market that attracts and retains loyal customers.
The First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
I was annoyed yesterday at how people seem to confuse these 2 things. So the story is some guy on the Duck Dynasty show is anti-gay and potentially denying the need for the Civil Rights movement.  People are all up in arms that A&E, where his reality show is shown, suspended the show “indefinitely”. Full disclosure, I never saw nor did I have an interest in this show. The first thing people scream is First Amendment Rights. No rights are being violated here. He has the right to say whatever he wants. However, A&E has a business to run and they have the right to decide who they employ as part of their brand. The same thing happened with Paula Deen’s sponsors dropping her after she said admitted to using the N-Word hundreds of years ago.  I don’t even care anymore when famous people say racist/homophobic things unless it’s unexpected. Is someone in the cast of Duck Dynasty being against gay people shocking? No of course it’s not. Now if Judy Garland came back to life and damned all homosexuals to hell then yeah, I’d fall over in my chair.
Let me end this with a string of unfair assumptions that everyone should realize. Most owners/executives of these companies like A&E are rich. Rich people (who were not born into money) work hard to keep their money and finding ways to get more. Rich business types are probably Republican, not always but remember we are stereotyping here. Republicans preach religion, morals, and freedom to do business. These are the people that may be anti-gay themselves personally. Although, if their product/spokesperson becomes part of an anti-gay scandal that could hurt their business (i.e. their money); they will cut them loose with one hand and hold a “we respect all people” statement with the other. Once the public figures this out we will really cut down on these mini-outrages that show up every few months.
