Agenda / Comments:

I’m so excited for this one. The reason people watch reality shows is for the conflict. Up until this point, Monet and Vaughn have been carrying all the fights for the entire show. This episode belongs to Dr. Joseph Cilona, clinical psychologist. He is sitting down with all the couples to talk about conflicts in their marriages so far.

The Couples:

Jamie & Doug

They started the show back at the trailer park Jamie grew up in. I’m not sure if the trailer they are sitting in used to/does belong to her family or if it is just a representation of where she lived. Jamie is beginning to trust Doug because of his understanding towards her on their trip.

What just happened? Doug lied about having a cigarette and it turned into the oddest argument ever. He said he had quit smoking but when she could smell the smoke on him he got very defensive. Now, he comes back saying he’s sorry he lied to her face about it and that is not the type of person he is. Only the reactions were filmed not the initial fight so I don’t know how angry he got but Jamie said she is not having it. He swore on his mother’s life that he didn’t have a cigarette. The fact that he would defend such a little lie so dramatically makes it worse. I don’t think Jamie was overacting by calling him childish. What happens when he starts telling big lies? How far will he go to cover his tracks? He’ll have to swear on his whole families’ lives then. Jamie consults with her friend about the fight. She even said if they were just dating she would not be with him anymore. I think this just set them back a couple weeks.

  • Psychology Sessions:

Doug told Dr. Joseph about “the lie” and how he thought things were going well up to that point. Dr. Joseph wants Jamie to try to get past that and remember all his good points up to now. He made Doug make a promise to Jamie that he will be truthful and such. I don’t want to be unfair but he is a salesman so I would be concerned about his truthfulness anyway. It’s his job to sell people on things.

Cortney & Jason

Jason briefly discusses why he has not introduced Cortney to his mother. Basically, he wants to wait until she is feeling better plus he wants to get to know Cortney more first. Time is ticking on when they decide to stay married or not. Cortney was surprised when Jason questioned her commitment. He worries that when he goes to firefighter school, where his schedule will be even more hectic, that Cortney will not be able to handle that.

  • Psychology Sessions:

Jason is afraid that during his Fire Academy he will push Cortney away to the point that she will leave and it will be his fault. He still believes that right time will come for Cortney and his mother to meet. Did they say the training is 6 months? Cortney is concerned about what will happen in that time as well. Cortney doesn’t want to be the cause of him losing focus. Dr. Joseph feels they are handling things in a mature way even though they are the youngest couple (Jason – 27 and Cortney – 26).

  • Homework questions:

What is your biggest fear about when this experiment ends?

Cortney’s is that things will change and Jason’s was the same. I guess Jason had to write down the answer beforehand so he just showed her what he wrote. Cortney tries to tell him that they will change together and Jason thinking no one changes for the better isn’t right.

Things you think your partner still doesn’t know about you?

He said growing up was hard not having a father and he felt alone. Having that experience makes him who he is so he wants Cortney to know since they are going to be together forever. Cortney is happy to learn more about him but doesn’t want to push him.

Monet & Vaughn

Did Monet just say she has a screw in her foot? No explanation why. She is having surgery to have it removed and Vaughn came to pick her up afterwards.

Vaughn’s mother comes for a visit to talk to him and give advice. She just said give it time to get to know each other. Monet had coffee with her alone. She told her a little bit about Vaughn. I loved when his mother said men are fragile and need to fawned over so you should try to do that even if you don’t mean it.

They discussed his mother’s visit. Monet feels Vaughn wants a wife to cook and clean for him every day. I knew this would happen. She said in her initial interviews that she wanted a guy with traditional values. That’s what traditional values are. He said he was trying to be civil with her and hoped things would work themselves out. She was not happy about that. New minor argument and it ended with we’ll talk to Dr. Joseph tomorrow.

  • Psychology Sessions:

Monet tells Dr. Joseph about the “civil” attitude of Vaughn and how that hurts her. Dr. Joseph thinks Vaughn hasn’t seen Monet’s hurt, only her anger. Vaughn doesn’t feel the affection from Monet. He compliments her but she doesn’t say the same things back. Monet was asked to give him a compliment now and she said he has potential. Doesn’t sound like a compliment to me. That’s funny. They were asked to write each other an apology letter for their homework. Monet doesn’t think she has anything to apologize for.
