Category: Jigsaw Puzzles

I was listening to a BBC Radio Program yesterday called Going to Pieces in the Box. It was talking about the history of jigsaw puzzles. It made me think about my large jigsaw puzzle (Dolomites – Summer) I have yet to frame. I finished it a couple years ago and it took me 1 year, 6 months, and 28 days to complete. It’s 4000 pieces and the box says it is 52.75 in x 38 (2/5) in. That is the largest puzzle I have put together and it was too big for my card table. Right now, I have it in large pieces under my coffee table (see photos). I’m not sure how to deal with it. I don’t want to take it apart. I thought about doing it in 2 separate frames that hang next to each other like looking out a window. It would be easier to move that way plus custom frames are expensive. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I should mention that I am far from rich at the moment so inexpensive would be best. When I am richer, I’m going to visit that area.

My blog has gotten over 100,000 views now.  Twitter has helped with that and the range of TV shows I have reviewed.  At some point, I will get back in to the cooking and politics more.  I’m just not in the mood to deal with all the silliness of talking heads plus I’m not in the position to spend extra money on random food ingredients.

I have been putting more time into doing jigsaw puzzles.  I did this one in 12 days.  I like to keep track of how long it takes me to do these.  It’s only a 1000 piece puzzle so it is pretty easy.  I have a couple more 1000s to do still.  The only reason I have them is because the photos in the puzzle make it a little more difficult.
Forces of Time

Since I watch all these things online, especially now that I’ve given up cable, I wanted to find a good way to share funny things I see.  Therefore, I got a youTube channel.  I know no one is going to sit through whole episodes to see the 2 min I’m describing. So you should expect many more video clips.  This is the first of 2 videos I will share.  This is a clip from the show QI about the puzzle jug I went crazy for awhile ago.  One day, I will have some of these.

Also, an update on my trials and tribulations.  Still no real job yet.  I’m going to have a phone interview next week so that is good.  Still no word on how much I’ll get in unemployment that applied for probably 3 weeks ago.  I did get info on what I could get but that isn’t official yet.  So just waiting.  Still trying to cut down on electricity but I’ll need to wait to see if it pays off when I get the next bill.  Since I’m driving less, I will save on gas and that apparently is going up in cost.  I know I should be talking about the political nonsense goings on but I’m still busy with all this job stuff.  Eventually when I know what is going on we will return to that.

Puzzle Jug?!

I love jigsaw puzzles as well as other types of puzzles. So when I saw a puzzle jug on QI, with Stephen Fry and Alan Davies, I didn’t know what to do. Here is a picture of one from Wikipedia.

This is the QI episode. The puzzle jug section starts at about 39:08 if you would like to see it.

It is basically a jug with holes around the top so if you try to pick it up and drink it, all the liquid pours out. There is a built in straw/spout that you have to drink out of but you can only do it if the holes around the jug are covered. It’s amazing. It’s funny because I do this exact thing when I get a cracked straw from a take out place. If you just put your finger over the cracked piece you can still use it. I need to get one once I get my next job. I don’t want a plastic one either, it has to be cool. If you have one or know where I can get a good one let me know. I’m in the USA and it seems like it was originally from the UK/Europe.

Photomosaics Pig Puzzle

The puzzle took me 3 months and 4 days to do. It’s only 1000 pieces too.

My 4000 Piece Puzzle

This is the picture from the website I bought it from. It took a total of 1 year, 6 months, and 28 days to complete.  The box says it is 52.75 in x 38 (2/5) in.  So I need to get a custom frame for that.

Dolomites (Summer)

Wow, How Can I Do This?

Let me just confess my love for jigsaw puzzles. I have a 4000 piece puzzle just I did and in the process of finding away to frame it. I saw this while figuring out Pinterest. I need to figure out how to do this to myself.
