Finally, Scandal is back on. I had so many questions but it isn’t like there was a cliff hanger last season. I felt the show was good. We did find out where Olivia Pope was (as asked in the recent promos). She was 100 miles off the coast of Zanzibar. If you watch my video review (above) you can see where that is and other photos from the show. I don’t think we were told how long she was on this private island, with Jake. While there, she was going by Julia Baker and receiving crates of food and wine by boat. On the last delivery, Julia/Olivia received a letter addressed to Julia Baker. Inside was the story of Harrison’s death. She was compelled to return to give Harrison a proper funeral; Jake was less enthused about it.

Olivia Pope is back in DC. The first thing she does is go back to her old office to find Quinn there. Quinn was the one who tracked her down by tracking fine wine shipments. It makes sense that Olivia would give up her life, the President, but not her wine. The two of them visited the other gladiators. Huck, now Randy, is working in tech support but he refuses to talk to her if she isn’t planning on staying. Quinn tells Olivia she regularly checks on him be he never speaks to her. Huck has is routine in life and lives without hope since Olivia quit on them. Abby is now the press secretary for the White House. She too was angry at Olivia and basically accused her of letting Harrison die.

Olivia is upset and conflicted on what to do. All of a sudden she gets a phone call from Senator Stephanie Vaughn for help (actually she didn’t answer the call but the assistant was at her door as well). Why Olivia still has access to her apartment and a working phone is beyond me. Anyway, she goes with the assistant to Senator Sterling’s house who is bloodied on the floor. The story was that he (Sterling) was pushed when he tried to assault the Senator Vaughn. It turns out not to be true. He assaulted the assistant but Vaughn decided to take responsibility because she picked her assistant to work with him specifically because she knew he liked girls like her. Olivia is disgusted to hear the truth and decides to return to the island. However, after Harrison’s funeral, she changes her mind again. Everyone showed up at the funeral although they didn’t talk to Olivia. Even her father drove by. Previously, he told Olivia he had nothing to do with Harrison’s death but that he killed her mother by order of the president. All lies. He had Harrison killed and Maya is still in her little dungeon. By the end of the show, Olivia decided to take the case of the senator’s assistant. Senator Sterling is not dead just badly injured. Huck and Quinn return to help Olivia.

As far as Fitz and the White House world go, he apparently tried to kill himself but he told Mellie never to mention it again. She is over all this. She is walking around the White House in sweatpants and a bathrobe eating cereal. Cyrus found out that Olivia was back by seeing her with Abby (having her followed I think), he tells the President, and the President wants to know how long she is staying. Fitz tells Mellie and she just wants to know when he starts seeing her again. He claims he won’t and Mellie makes it clear she has no interest in him right now. Cyrus has a new adversary that he called Lizzie Bear who is the head of the RNC (Republican National Committee). I found it funny that she had very similar hair to him (see video for photo, at about 5 min). Fitz’s cabinet is falling apart just as his life has. He has lost several members of his government. Dave, Abby’s ex-boyfriend has been nominated for Attorney General. David had been busy going through the B-613 files that Jake left for him. He was so busy that he neglected Abby in her time of need.

It will be interesting to see how long it will take for Abby to return to OPA and for the Olivia-Fitz relationship to start up again. At one point, Olivia passed Fitz in a building and they didn’t look at each other. However as they passed, their hands moved slightly towards each other and they both smiled as they went.

I decided the best way to see how much I like doing these video + written reviews is to do them for all 3 of the shows I’m waiting for. I will use this first week as the trial run that way I can see how difficult it will be week to week. Plus, I can see what the feedback will be and where the interest lies. Scientifically, it just makes sense to do that. And if you didn’t know, I am a scientist. I don’t have access to TV so I won’t be able to watch the shows until the day after. So you can expect reviews the day after airing at the earliest. I know there are lots of people who watch TV the same way so I don’t feel like my review will be too late.

Premiere are going on this next week on ABC: Scandal (tonight, Thursday), Once Upon A Time (Sunday), and Revenge (Sunday).

I wanted to do a short preview of the shows I have been waiting forever to see again this fall. It also gives me the opportunity to try incorporating audio into my posts. Since people prefer different things, I decided to do video and written parts of this series of blog posts as a trial run. The written portion will be more general and assuming you have not seen the series much or at all. The video will be more detail about specific events in the show as well as my impression of certain storylines containing many spoilers if you haven’t seen the past 3 seasons. It has been so long since I’ve seen the last episode of these series. So, I watched it again before doing the video/audio section to remind myself of what was going on. I’m previewing 3 different shows: Scandal, Revenge, and Once Upon A Time.

Scandal focuses on Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) and her Associates that fix problems for Washington DC’s rich and powerful. Let me try to tell you the main storylines in this show. Olivia is a lawyer that has several employees of varied skills. Each of them basically was “saved” by her at one time or another. They see themselves as gladiators fighting for Olivia. Their cases are not in the courtroom but more times are public relations or cleaning up scandals. The biggest scandal is Olivia’s life. Her family and people she has close relationships with are not who they seem to be. Scandals outside of her (and her gladiators) are typical of what you would think: corruption, murder, blackmail, etc. She did work on the President’s election campaign so she has access to people on the highest level of government. Her reputation in Washington is that she is good at “handling” scandals without passing judgment. Cases have involved the President, assassins, and children of politicians.

The show is so clever in its early seasons letting the viewers know the background of each character. Everyone’s lives unfold in pieces so you form an opinion of someone, you see what has happened to them, and you forgive/understand them. There is some violence in this show but I wouldn’t call it graphic. Visually the show has some great camera angles particularly looking through windows and mirrors. I know some people don’t like thinks like that but I think it works well. What I don’t like is moving from scene to scene there can be bright flashes like from a camera. If you are watching in a dark room it can be uncomfortable to the eye. In general, I think it is a great show. I can’t wait to see what will happen in season 4 (ABC, Season Premiere Sept. 25th, 9 pm EST/ 8 pm CST).

Yesterday, my blog surpassed my highest views for 1 day. My record was 411 on February 25, 2014. Now, it is 441 views. All my views previously were from Amish Mafia but now it is Dating Naked. After this reality show season, I’m going to have to find other things to review. I tend not to review scripted shows but I guess I could start. I’m considering Once Upon A Time, Revenge, or Scandal, which are all shows I got into late. I would have to do catch up reviews of past seasons for those though.

It’s been a while since I did a “State of the Union” address about myself. I just decided now to do one with no real planning. See topics below:

Under/Unemployment

I am still underemployed with my contract end date rapidly approaching. I decided not to do a website countdown this time. No real good prospects either. I briefly thought about starting a business but quickly realized that I don’t have any skills or talents that would sustain a good business. I even got a book from the library that talked about online business and eMagazines. I got through chapter 1. So it looks like I will have to wait for someone to employ me in some way.

Diet/Exercise/Weight Control

I was using MyFitnessPal to help myself lose weight and in total I lost 31 lbs. I am still in that weight range. I decided to stop using MyFitnessPal daily to track all my food. I had 539 day log-in streak by time I stopped. I thought I can do all this without the food logging. I think I have been without for a couple weeks now. Exercise has completely fallen off. I had hurt my knee a couple of times exercising so I don’t see the point of that anymore. The weather is getting warmer so I’ll probably use the pool nearby to swim for exercise. All my exercise experience has made me anti-exercise. I have enough to worry about with the job stuff than to deal with exercise and going out of my way to be healthy. I’ve completely changed my eating habits so I’m not concerned about gaining all the weight back.

Food

I have started eating fruits or vegs with every meal to increase my potassium and fiber (along with vitamins and minerals). The thing I eat a lot now is avocado ranch dressing. I make it with whatever ranch dressing I have and an avocado. I have it basically every week. It is nice because my ranch dressing, which I used a ton of, lasts much longer. I even bought a pineapple corer (I think that is what it’s called) so I can eat fresh pineapple rings instead of buying dried ones so often. I haven’t been baking or trying as many new foods lately because of the general cost of that type of thing. The only thing I overspend on is food (and candy). But, I figure food is good for you and you have to eat anyway.

TV/Movies/Entertainment

I am surprised how nice it is not to have cable. I don’t miss much since I found other ways to obtain video. I downloaded AdBlock Edge for Firefox and not only does it block ads on Facebook but also commercials on videos from YouTube and TV websites like FOX and VH1. It is amazing.

Netflix is always #1. At the moment, I’m looking for new shows to watch. Revenge has just gone away for their summer break. That show is just great and confusing. I have a few things I plan to check out in the next week or so: Scandal, Once Upon A Time, and Vikings. Everyone says Scandal is good so I need to at least see a few episodes. I am still completely connected to the Dan LeBatard Show on ESPN Radio/The Ticket (Miami). As I say, I care nothing about most organized sports. I rather play or be at a game than follow who is who. However, this show is so funny and is full of interesting topics (lots of racial discussions, which I love). It’s slightly annoying because they are all about basketball right now and I think that is one of the most boring sports. It is like NASCAR but with people. People going back and forth on what might as well be a track for who knows how long.

Anyway, I saw Jezebel this weekend and was disappointed. Even though, Bette Davis and Henry Fonda were in it, I just can’t watch Civil War era movies set in the South. It is too annoying for me to see all that mess.

Organization

I am slowly going through my stuff and throwing things away. I finished with my clothes and got 2.5 large (yard sized) bags full to give away to Goodwill (if they take them). I want to go through everything now just to downsize in case I move again.

Well I think that is everything. I am months behind on looking at other blogs but that is on my list to start doing that again. I’m surprisingly busy even though I feel like I don’t do much. As of now I have 129 followers and 15,505 hits. I’m still surprised people subscribe to my blog. With more promotion maybe I can have thousands of followers without being famous though. I don’t want people camped outside my apartment trying to take pictures of me. I don’t like having my picture taken so there would be a problem.
